General Information to Prospective Candidates

Aviation Medicine is a unique and rewarding medical specialty that combines aspects of preventive, occupational, environmental and clinical medicine with the physiology and psychology of aviators. It is concerned with the health and safety of those who fly, both crew and passengers, the health of air traƯic control oƯicers and the selection and performance of those who hold aviation and air traƯic control licenses. If you are interested in entering the field of aviation medicine, we shall be glad to support you in achieving your goal. Our training organization, the Austrian Aviation Medicine Institute, AAMI, a subsidiary of Aeromedical Center Salzburg provides the full spectrum of courses required to become an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME). Basic training qualifies candidates as Class 2 AMEs with certification privileges of private and sports pilots as well as cabin crew. Advanced training extends privileges to the certification of commercial (CPL) and airline transportation (ATPL) pilots as well as air traƯic control oƯicers (ATCOs).

Accreditation

Our courses are accredited by the Austrian Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Austro Control GmbH, and are recognized by all EASA member states. Completion of a basic or advanced aviation medicine course requires subsequent authorization by the CAA of the country that you are licensed to practice medicine in. Completion of aviation medicine training does not guarantee accreditation by your CAA.

Course language

All lectures and self-study modules will be presented in English. The final examination, the assessment of aeromedical competency, will be in English and presented in a multiple-choice format. Lecture slides will be provided in hard copy for study and review.
